China, DPRK seek closer ties

Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping continues his visit to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. On Wednesday he discussed bilateral ties and other issues with Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea.

On Wednesday Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping discussed bilateral ties and other issues with Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Worker's Party of Korea.

Xi Jinping extended President Hu Jintao's congratulations to the DPRK on its 60th anniversary, and his good wishes to the DPRK people. Xi spoke highly of traditional friendship between the two countries. He says China wants to improve cooperation with the DPRK in all fields.

Kim Jong Il offered sympathy for the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. He expressed belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of China and the central government, the Chinese people can overcome the tragedy and successfully rebuild their homes. Kim also wished the upcoming Beijing Olympics a success. Xi Jinping said China will continue to play a constructive role in the Six-Party nuclear talks.
