Special Report: Strong quake jolts SW ChinaThe Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development has briefed the media on China's relief work after the earthquake and planning for post-disaster reconstruction.
Vice Minister, Qi Ji, says 26,000 makeshift houses have so far been erected in quake-affected areas. Another 14,000 are under construction. The reconstruction plan of affected zones has started.
Meanwhile, water supply in quake-hit areas has been gradually restored. Experts have been organized to inspect the environment in and around the quake areas. Advice has been given for the setting up of water treatment equipment. More than 80 sets of emergency water supply equipment have been sent to the quake zones. This will ensure the water supply for 250,000 people per day.
