More than one week has past since the earthquake hit Sichuan and neighboring provinces. But miracles are still happening. On Tuesday, a man was rescued after being trapped for 179 hours.

31-year-old Ma Yuanjiang, is now in the intensive care unit of Chongqing Xinqiao Hospital. He was operated on last night and was already able to eat on Wednesday morning.

His doctor said it's a good sign when such a patient is able to eat.

Doctor Zhou Yue of Chongqing Xinqiao Hospital, said, "After a discussion involving more than 20 experts, we operated on him last night. When he got here his condition was not suitable for surgery. So we concentrated on treatment to sustain him. But we were prepared to operate whenever required. Following the surgery, his internal organs are now in stable condition. "

The doctor also praised Ma's rescuers who administered professional first aid.

Ma was rescued on Tuesday noon from the rubble in Wenchuan County and he was transported by a helicopter to the hospital in Chongqing.
