Reconstruction of Qianmen Street to finish before Olympics

The reconstruction work of Qianmen Street in central Beijing is almost finished. The project started a year ago, and the Street will be open to the public before the Beijing Olympics.

Located in the center of Beijing near Tiananmen Square Qianmen Street has been a bustling area for more than 600 years. The reconstruction project aims to preserve Qianmen Street's history which is not an easy task.

Yi Xiangliu, member of Qianmen Street Reconstruction Committee, said, "The new street will be a combination of old and new. We are keeping the street's original style and adding some modern style. This reconstruction project is a valuable experience for us. "
