Officials say that they want to take the necessary precautions, despite there being no serious risks of supply falling dramatically in the near future. And they will setting aside enough to make up for any shortfalls for up two years of production.
Another government move involves spending close to 800 million US dollars this year to boost food production. Meanwhile, Malaysian authorities will also be working with the International Rice Research Institute on projects focusing on developing new hybrid strains of rice.
