China pledges to advance Sino-Japan relations

Special Report:   Chinese President visits Japan

Chinese President Hu Jintao has met with visiting former Japanese Prime Minister, Yasuhiro Nakasone. President Hu says relations between the two countries are improving, and China will work with Japan to push forward strategic and reciprocal ties.

Hu Jintao said cooperation in politics, trade, culture and defense have made remarkable progress. China and Japan have also conducted close consultations on global issues. President Hu thanked the Japanese government for its adherence to the one-China policy, and its support for the Beijing Olympic Games.

Nakasone said the two countries should build a long-term friendship. The former prime minister said he hoped the two sides would take Hu Jintao's upcoming visit to Japan as an opportunity to open a new chapter in bilateral relations.
