Special Report:   3.14 Tibet Riots

LONDON/OTTAWA, March 26 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese ambassadors to Britain and Canada have criticized some Western media's biased coverage of the recent riots in Lhasa, capital of China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Fu Ying, China's ambassador to Britain, said Wednesday that some Western media had failed to present a true picture of what really happened in Lhasa by distorting the facts.

Fu said the biased coverage of the riots by some Western media has served to mislead the Western public, hurt the Chinese people's feelings and caused some foreign leaders to make wrong political judgments.

The Chinese government and its embassy in Britain have lodged solemn representations to the concerned media organizations and have already received apologies from some of them, she said.

Meanwhile, Chinese envoy to Canada Lu Shumin on Wednesday also criticized some Canadian media for their biased coverage of the Lhasa riots.

Asked at a news conference whether some of the reports on the riots were biased, Lu said: "Yes, you would know it better than I do as you are in the trade."

The ambassador said the riots were staged by separatist groups with the support of the Dalai clique in an attempt to split China, as well as undermine both the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and the stability of the region.

Lu said China does not agree with politicizing the Olympics as it is against the spirit of the Games.

"I think most Canadian athletes would agree with me too, and don't want to suffer and become a victim of a political game," he said.
