The Ministry of Public Security says a 19-year-old woman of Uygur ethnic background has confessed to a failed terrorist attack on a passenger jet earlier this month.
The suspect, Guzalinur Turdi, and others involved in the case have been arrested. Police call the incident an organized terrorist attack by Eastern Turkestan separatists based outside the country.
The China Southern Airlines' flight from Urumqi to Beijing made an emergency landing in Lanzhou on March 7th. The airline says crew members smelled gasoline on a woman leaving one of the jet's toilets. They found a beverage can containing flammable liquid in a dustbin. A syringe had been used to put the liquid into the can.
