Tibetan doctor Losang Cering has been awarded a "Tibet Youth May 4th Medal" - one of the highest honors given to civilians. He was wounded while trying to protect a man of Han nationality and his son in the March 14th riots in Lhasa.

Losang Cering put his safety helmet on Wu's head and held the boy to his chest.

On the day of the riots, Cering went with a nurse to rescue the injured when he saw Wu Guanglin holding his six-year-old son and crying for help in front of a blazing house. The boy had been trampled by rioters and was having trouble breathing.

The ambulance eventually broke out away from the mob, but the doctor fainted and suffered a cerebral concussion after he was hit violently by rioters.

On the way back to hospital, the ambulance was intercepted by a dozen people with knives and other weapons. Losang Cering put his safety helmet on Wu's head and held the boy to his chest.
