Brazil's Minister of Environment Marina Silva says the environment must be considered in economic development policies.
Marina Silva, Brazil's Minister of Environment, said, "The development of economy should always take into consideration the protection of environment. The Brazilian government has made great efforts in forestry protection and protecting a variety of species. It is a new challenge for us to balance economic development with environmental protection."
Speaking at the forum, Brazilian President Lula da Silva insisted rich nations should bear most of the cost in efforts to reduce global warming.
Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazilian President, said, "It is easy to sign a document, and it's also easy to forget it. Many developed countries tend to leave the issue of environmental protection and reducing greenhouse gases to the developing ones."
Lula also says it's unfair for developing countries only to shoulder the responsibility of environmental protection, as they didn't get as many opportunities in the 20th century.
World Bank President Robert Zoellick made a speech via video, saying developed countries should support sustainable policies of developing countries and help them achieve "green boosting economies".
The next G8+5 Climate Change Dialogue Forum will be held in Tokyo this June.
