US expert: DPRK seeks for more action on energy aid

A US expert says the DPRK is looking for more action on energy aid before it will go forward with a nuclear disablement agreement. Senior U.S. nuclear scientist Siegfried Hecker returned to Beijing on Saturday after a trip to the DPRK.

He said that while the DPRK was committed to disabling its key nuclear facility as part of an agreement made at the six-party talks, it has decided to slow down the disablement work.

Siegfried Hecker, Senior US Nuclear Scientist, said, "To them, the most significant hurdle was the same reason as them slowing down the disablement. That is the lack of the delivery of the fuel oil and the lack of any motion in the removal from the states sponsoring terrorism list and the trading with the enemy act. And they said until that is done, they would not be able to produce what ambassador Hill calls a 'complete and correct declaration'"
