Bird flu outbreaks in Ukraine

Ukraine have declared an emergency on the Crimean Peninsula after a new outbreak of bird flu.

Health workers are culling thousands of chickens after the virus was detected in birds at a farm.Quarantine zones have been set up around the affected areas, and police and army personnel have been dispatched to the area to help prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

The last registered outbreak of bird flu in Ukraine was in June 2006. No human cases have been recorded in the country.
