Located in the Horn of Africa region, not far from the major ports of the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, lies -- Ethiopia.

It covers a little more than a million square kilometers, and is bound by Sudan, Kenya, Djibouti, Somalia and Eritrea. More than 74 million people live here, and 85 percent of them work in the agricultural industry -- the main source of revenue for the country. Official statistics show that farming output accounts for 45 percent of the Ethiopian GDP, and 90 percent of its exports. Coffee tops the list of export items, generating 60 percent of Ethiopia's total export earnings.

China and Ethiopia established diplomatic relations in 1970. Just one year later, economic and technological cooperation between China and Ethiopia began. In 1986, Chinese enterprises started launching branches in Ethiopia, mainly in the field of infrastructure.

China has become Ethiopia's largest trading partner. Trade volume between the two countries reached more than 500 million US dollars in 2007. That's a 60 percent increase over 2006.
