Chinese researchers are getting ready to start the first nation-wide census on pollution sources next month. The survey aims to get a clear picture of the country's overall environmental status.
Officials from the State Environmental Protection Administration says the survey will cover major industrial, agricultural and service industry polluters. About 1.5 million industrial enterprises, including highly-polluting paper-making and oil-production companies, are on the list.
The survey will also study the state of the environment at food production sites and investigate the impact of pollution on everyday life. The results of the survey will be made public next year.
