Telecommunications authorities have announced a public hearing on whether to lower charges for long-distance mobile phone calls.

Telecommunications authorities have announced a public hearing on whether to lower charges for long-distance mobile phone calls.

Analysts say it's the first step towards setting a more reasonable price for the service. Long-distance mobile phone calls are two to three times more expensive than local calls, and charges vary from one place to another, and from carrier to carrier.

The hearing will be held at the end of January and will include consumers, industry representatives and government officials.
