Chemical pumped out of ship stranded in Yangtze River

A load of liquid caustic soda has been pumped out of a ship stranded in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.

The ship was set to sail to central China's Hunan Province on Friday, carrying 130 tons of the corrosive chemical.

No chemical leakage has been reported after the ship became stranded. The local environmental bureau has sent a crane ship to the site, and salvage work is set to start on Monday. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
