Preparation for Special Olympics closing ceremony underway

Organizing authorities say preparation is underway for the closing ceremony of the 2007 Special Olympics Summer Games. The event is to be be held at Shanghai's Jiangwan Stadium on Thursday.

Over 30,000 people are expected to attend the hour-and-a-half long ceremony. High-tech equipment will help a mentally disabled girl "fly" to symbolize the athletes' dreams of reaching higher. A tree displaying all the athletes and their families' wishes to China will be part of the ceremony.

International stars like Spanish tenor Jose Carreras and Italian soprano Maria Lucia are scheduled to perform.
