In an effort to discourage the use of plastic bags, a company in Thailand has introduced a line of environmentally friendly bags, which were the highlight in a show held in Bangkok.

Meet the nano-bag. The words read "I am a plastic's enemy."

Of the 85,000 tons of waste Bangkok produces every day, 21% is made up of plastic bags. The burning of the plastic releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.

The Thai government want citizens to use fewer plastic bags, so it's encouraging companies to make re-usable cotton bags that are friendlier to the environment.

These bags from ICC International PLC are made with fine cotton coated with nano-particles to render them water and oil resistant. You can easily clean the surface by wiping it with a wet napkin.

So far, the nano-bags have been very popular in the Inno Mart 2007.

Staff of ICC International PLC, said, "Today we have sold 2000 bags."

Each bag costs around 150 Thai baht or 5 US dollars - a price within the reach of many households. Each bag can be washed over 50 times, so a bag can last for a year and costs the user an average of 40 cents a month - less than the price of a Thai subway ticket.

During the four days of the show, ICC has sold over 10,ooo bags.

The company is very proud of sales and says the nano-bags are part of its long-term plan to raise public awareness of global warming and prevent the situation from worsening.
