Being a volunteer is a direct way for ordinary people to participate in the Olympic Games. Now with only just over 300 days to go, over 100,000 volunteers are receiving all kinds of training to get ready for the Games.

While athletes are going all out to win the test events, volunteers are also trying to set personal bests in the relay to get scores from the river side to the information center.

"I hurt my leg during my training at school. But I must hang on for over 4 to 5 hours running in such hot weather to fulfill my task."said a volunteer.

But passion and energy are far from enough. Volunteers must also know the professional ropes. Here at the finishing line, two volunteers are testing a canoe which has just finished its race.

A volunteer said, "We must clean the water first because we want to get the net weight of the canoe. Then we also need to examine whether the length, width of the canoe and the radian of its head and tail are up to standard. "

Canoeing is not a big sport in China. Volunteers have to rely on written materials for the basics of their job. But they are quick to catch on.

Over 20 test events have been held in Beijing and Qingdao since last year. They provide the best opportunity for some 10,000 volunteers to learn on the job.

The message of the Good Luck Beijing events is not just for the city and the athletes. The wish also extends to the volunteers.
