UN urges Sudan on peace deal

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging the Sudan government to faithfully implement the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. His remarks come ahead of peace conference next month between Darfur rebel groups and the Sudanese government.

Ban Ki-moon visited Darfur last week. He was moved by meeting internally displaced people and their desire for peace and security in their country. Ban also visited Chad, Libya and other parts of Sudan and met with leaders who promised to strive for a final settlement of the Darfur conflict.

The Secretary-general stresses the leaders of south and north Sudan must overcome differences and put the utmost effort into implementing the peace deal.
