Iran says it will reconsider its cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency if the UN Security Council issues new sanctions against the country.

The warning came as the Iranian president reiterated that his country had put over 3,000 uranium-enriching centrifuges into operation.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad repeated the country's claim -- first made in April -- in state media that Iran is running 3,000 centrifuges to enrich uranium.

At that time, the IAEA said Iran had only 328 operating centrifuges. But just days ago, the UN nuclear watchdog revised its statement -- putting the number at close to 2,000. In its report issued on Thursday, the IAEA said the Iranian enrichment program had slowed. It also noted that Iran had been cooperating with the IAEA's nuclear probe which could fend off calls for a third round of sanctions against Iran.
