Commerce Minister Bo Xilai says China welcomes objective assessments from its trading partners on the quality of its products and the safety of its exported food. He was speaking at the ASEAN Plus 3 Finance Ministers' Meeting in the Philippines.

Bo Xilai quoted Japanese government figures showing that 99.42 percent of Chinese food exported to Japan in 2006 was up to standard -- a higher percentage than exports from the US and Europe.

Bo Xilai said the Chinese government attaches great importance to food safety and product quality.

He said China welcomes objective assessments, but opposes baseless criticism of its products. The minister stressed that even though more than 99 percent of its products are safe, China is committed to improving the quality and safety of all its products.
