Beijing expands subway before Olympics

Line 5 runs from the Northern tip to the Southern tip of the urban areas of Beijing. It has 23 stops and almost 28 kilometers of track.

Construction began in December 2002. Beijing Subway currently has four lines, Line 1, Line 2, Line 13 and Batong Line. Line 5 will expand the subway network to 142 kilometers. Beijing will have eight lines totaling 200 kilometers by 2008.
