A Special Envoy for the UN Chief says he is deeply concerned about the situation in Lebanon.
Terje Roed-Larson is in charge of implementing a Security Council resolution on disarmament and the extension of Lebanese authority in southern Lebanon. He spoke on Monday, following talks in Egypt with President Hosni Mubarak.
Terje Roed-Larson said, "I think the Secretary-General of the Arab League and myself, on behalf of Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon of the United Nations, we all are now gravely concerned about the situation in Lebanon and I will, on behalf of the secretary-general, urge everybody to act in the most responsible manner or else I feel that the whole situation might, if I may put it that way, fall off the cliff. This is now time to proceed with prudence and carefulness and responsibility."
