High temperatures usher in summer around China

Summer has arrived in China. According to the Chinese lunar calendar, Sunday heralded the start of summer. Temperatures have been high across the country.

On Sunday, temperatures hit over 30 degrees Celsius in many places in China's north and east. In Southwest China's Sichuan Province, temperatures have started to rise, after the region experienced snow in some mountainous areas a couple of days ago. Along the coasts of eastern and southern China, people headed to the seaside to cool off. On the day summer starts, it's a tradition to weigh children and to eat special food, such as boiled eggs and fried spring pancake.

The Central Observatory says from Monday, a cold front will move across North and Northeast China, and temperatures will fall by 4 to 10 degrees Celsius in those areas.
