Special Report:   May Day "Golden Week"

All across China, planes, trains and buses are getting crowded once again as the May Day holiday draws to a close. Right across the country, travellers have been begun to return to their offices and their homes.

On Sunday, railway, highway and civil aviation sectors in major cities all saw peak passenger flows.

At the Beijing Railway Station and the West Railway Station, there were 600 thousand passengers, the highest number since the Spring Festival season.

Railway authorities in Wuhan, Guangzhou and Chongqing have added temporary long-distance trains to cope with the volume.

The airports in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou all welcomed large numbers of passengers Sunday. Guangzhou's Baiyun Airport served about 350 thousand people, up from last year.

A airline passenger said, "There has been no delay, and there was no need to queue. I'm quite happy with how this trip has turned out."

Sunday also saw more passengers taking short journeys on highways. With a passenger increase of 50 percent, the Guangxi public transportation department dispatched one thousand buses to cope with the surge.
