The May Day holiday is China's first peak travel season after trains increased their speeds for the sixth time. The bullet train with a speed of two hundred kilometers per hour has become a new and popular travel alternative. Sun Xiaolong has more.
There are twenty six bullet trains setting off from Beijing every day, but there are almost no empty seats on them.
"Can I please have a bullet train ticket for today or tomorrow to Shenyang city?"
"We only have tickets on May 8th or later."
Although the price of the bullet train is higher than regular trains, railway departments say tickets for the bullet train are selling fast.
"Tickets for the bullet train during the holidays have all been sold," says Yu Xuejin, Beijing railway station.
Madam Sun and her family are off to visit relatives in the eastern province of Shandong. Although the ticket price for the bullet train is more than doubled that of regular trains, the bullet train is still an attractive way to travel.
"It's wonderful, it's a shorter journey and the train is comfortable and the service is better," says Madam Sun, Beijing resident.
Tickets sales for the bullet train have also been selling fast in other cities.
Travel agencies have not started to organize tours by high speed train yet. It won't be long ... they are expected to start this summer.
