The EU and Iran say progress has been made at talks designed to end a standoff over Tehran's uranium enrichment program, which many countries fear could be used to manufacture nuclear weapons.

EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana and Iran's top negotiator Ali Larijani met on Wednesday in the Turkish capital Ankara. No details have been released yet.

But Solana called the talks constructive. Those talks will resume in about two weeks.

Iran is accused of having a secret nuclear arms program. But Tehran says its enrichment work is for electricity production only and is vital for its economy.
