Special Report:   Cultural Heritage Day

The Terracotta Warriors in Xi'an are a magnificent sight, but one special group of visitors has experienced them in a different way. Instead of looking at the Qin Dynasty sculptures from a distance, they had the chance to feel them. Zhang Yong takes a closer look.

A touch of the armor.

A handshake across thousands of years.

For Kiyomi Kawamoto, close contact with the 2000-year-old Terracotta Warriors is an experience of a lifetime.

Japanese visitor Kiyomi Kawamoto said, "I thought I was dreaming."

The 7 blind visitors from Japan have heard so much about the majesty of the ancient soldiers on the radio. But they can't SEE the warriors, so they've always wanted to be able to touch them.

To their surprise, a travel agency in Xi'an helped them to do just that. They may have imagined the warriors in their minds a thousand times, but nothing can compare with the actual experience.

A Japanese visitor said, "They're much taller than I thought. And their faces are so clearly defined."

The visitors say the soldiers are so vivid, it's as if they are still alive. And they'll share this feeling with other blind people when they go back home.
