The winners of this year's Pulitzer Prize have been announced in New York City. The Wall Street Journal received a public service gold medal, for its coverage of backdated stock options for business executives.
The Pulitzer Board praised the Wall Street Journal for creative and comprehensive reporting that triggered investigations, leading to the ousting of top officials and widespread change in corporate America. The paper also won an award for international reporting.
The Pulitzer Prize is regarded as the highest honor in the US, in the areas of print journalism, literary achievement, and musical composition. It is administered by Columbia University in New York City, with yearly awards in 21 categories.
