Hu calls for strengthening co-op between legislatures of China, Russia

Hu Jintao also found time to meet with Russian parliamentary leaders and the Russian prime minister, in Moscow on Tuesday.
Earlier the day, President Hu Jintao met with Boris Gryzlov, speaker of the lower house of Russia's parliament, the State Duma.
The President said China and Russia's legislatures should step up their cooperation as it plays an important role in promoting the two sides' strategic partnership.
Hu Jintao proposed that relevant committees of the two sides' legislatures should give more constructive advice on developing the Sino-Russia relations and promoting bilateral cooperation in various areas.
Gryzlov noted that events of reciprocal theme years have demonstrated the high level of the two nations' strategic partnership. The Russian speaker also said that the State Duma will work to strengthen its cooperation with China's National People's Congress.

On the same day, President Hu Jintao also met with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Fradkov.
The President urged the two sides to take advantage of the regular exchange mechanism between the two prime ministers and to further promote trade and economic cooperation.
He said China will encourage its companies to invest in Russia, especially in infrastructure construction, manufacturing, high-tech industry, timber processing, energy and natural resources exploration. He added that China also welcomes investment by Russian companies in China.
The Russian prime minister appreciated China's efforts in improving trade structure and increasing imports of machinery from Russia.
