Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has arrived in the Sudanese capital Khartoum for bilateral talks. He and Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir accused the US and its allies of creating strife in Iraq.

Ahmadinejad made the comment at the start of his two-day visit to Sudan.

He and his Sudanese counterpart al-Bashir blamed the US and its allies for causing violence and sectarian tensions that have killed thousands of Iraqis.

Ahmadinejad said, "The arrival of foreign forces and the intervention of the hegemonic system in the affairs of the people of this country, is the root cause of the problems in Iraq."

Ahmadinejad made no reference to Iran's standoff with the international community over its nuclear program, which was instead mentioned by President Bahir.

al-Bashir said, "The attempts by countries possessing nuclear weapons to deny Iran its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, reflects a double standard that is prevalent in the international arena, which ignores Israel's arsenal of nuclear weapons."

Earlier, Ahmadinejad held talks with Bahir on strengthening bilateral relations.

The two sides will sign several agreements to boost trade and economic ties and bring more Iranian investment into Sudan.
