JERUSALEM, Feb. 28 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli government vowed Wednesday that it is doing more than any other government to deal with Iran's nuclear issue and is able to face the Iranian threat alone, local daily Jerusalem Post reported.

Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Avigdor Lieberman, who is also the chairman of the right-leaning party Israel Our Home, made the remarks to the members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, said the report.

"If Iran manages to attain nuclear capabilities, the entire region will enter a mad race to achieve similar capacities," Lieberman was quoted as saying.

"I don't want to think about the implications of that, because the situation will be out of control," he said, calling for the international community to unite to halt Iran from obtaining nuclear capabilities.

Iran said Monday it has earmarked 1.4 billion U.S. dollars for construction of nuclear power plants amid international pressure to abandon its nuclear program.
