China and world´s top 10 scientific events unveiled

China has unveiled its annual list of the top ten scientific events at home and abroad. The ten were voted on by more than 550 top scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Engineering.

Top on the chart at home was a significant breakthrough in internet technology.

Last September, China announced that its CERNET2 network had linked universities in different cities through IPv6. It offers unlimited internet addresses and more security.

Another event was the discovery of a large natural gas field in southwestern Sichuan province.

The setting up of the full superconducting experimental Tokamak fusion device as well as the return of the ship "Ocean 1" after its exploration were also included on the list.

Significant progress in the research of a Hepatitis B vaccine was also voted as being in the top 10 of scientific events.

Other events on the list include: the observation of Feshbach Resonace in the F+H2-HF+H Reaction, the afforestation of the Taklimakan desert, the breakthrough in the electron-positron accelerator, the realization of quantum teleportation of a two-qubit composite system, as well as the launch of a remote sensing satellite.

Events on the list of world's top ten scientific progress include:

The delivery by "Stardust" of comet samples back to the earth. This was big step forward in our understanding of the history of comets and the solar system.

The project of the international thermonuclear experimental reactor was launched.

Other significant events include:

The completion of the sequence test of human 1 chromosome genes, and Europe's first moon detector, SMART-1's successful landing on the moon.
