Hu Jintao meets US delegation for the 1st strategic economic dialogue

Chinese President Hu Jintao has met with a US delegation for the first strategic economic dialogue between the two countries. The American delegation is headed by U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson.

President Hu spoke positively about current Sino-US relations and praised the successful holding of the strategic economic dialogue. He said Sino-US economic ties are one of the world's most important bilateral economic relationships. Given economic globalization, China and the US are enjoying closer ties. President Hu pushed for the use of dialogue and friendly consultation to solve economic disagreements.

For his part, Paulson said improvements made during this first strategic economic dialogue will have long term impacts. And the dialogue mechanism will strengthen Sino-US trade and economic ties. He said the US will continue its efforts to develop bilateral economic relations.
