Chinese President Hu Jintao received relatives of Doctor Dwarkanath Kotnis at his hotel on Thursday morning. Hu Jintao said seeing them was just like seeing his own family.

He said the friendship Kotnis nurtured has been passed on to the later generations, and will never die. He also expressed the China's gratitude to the relatives, saying they have made great efforts to promote bilateral understanding and friendship.

President Hu said, "Chinese and Indian people share a long friendship. The two peoples supported each other against invasions, and fought for national liberation. Doctor Kotnis is one outstanding example. When Chinese people were confronted with difficulties, he came to China with great determination, and devoted himself to China's liberation cause. He is a symbol of Sino-Indian friendship. He will live forever in Chinese people's hearts, and his spirit will stimulate the two peoples to continue with the cause of Sino-Indian friendship."

Hu Jintao also said bilateral ties have been greatly improved, and a strategic partnership established, thanks to the efforts of both governments and people. The Chinese President said he believes the ties will grow even closer.
