Special Report:   Hu visits 4 Asian nations

Let’s take a closer look at the history of Sino-Vietnamese relations.

Since 1991, China and Vietnam have experienced a rapid and significant growth in their cooperation in various fields. In July 2005, Vietnamese President Tran Duc Luong visited China, showing the two countries' determination to broaden and deepen their cooperative relations.

In October, 2005, President Hu Jintao paid an official visit to Vietnam. The two sides agreed to work closely to speed up the process of land and border demarcation.

In August, 2006, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nong Duc Manh, visited China. The two countries issued a joint press communique in Beijing following the visit. Both sides agreed the visit would strengthen friendship and enhance all-round cooperation.

The friendly bilateral ties between the two nations have had concrete results. China and Vietnam have so far signed over 40 cooperation accords at the governmental level.

Civil air routes, as well as shipping lines, roads, and railways have been opened, boosting the flow of people and cargo. Over the past ten years, China has provided Vietnam with development assistance of 312 million US dollars.

Most Chinese funded projects are in industry and services, with some in agriculture and forestry. China has become Vietnam's biggest trading partner, and statistics show two-way trade is to exceed 10 billion US dollars this year.

China and Vietnam also established exchange programs for students, trainees, and experts to boost cooperation in various fields.
