President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has indirectly referred to Israel as a tyrannical regime that will, one day, be destroyed. While vowing to defend his country's right to develop nuclear technology, he has also said he is ready to negotiate with the United States and its allies.
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad spoke to a cheering crowd of students in the Indonesian capital. He said every country, not just the United States, has the right to use new technology to meet energy needs. The Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, "Every country that wants to achieve the pinnacle of science must do so and fight for it."
His comments came after US and its European allies in the UN Security Council agreed to present Tehran with a choice of incentives or sanctions. All of which were designed to push Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities.
Ahmadinejad said his country was willing to negotiate, but the United States must first drop its "bad attitude."
The Iranian president also warned, threats against his country would make talks more difficult.
Ahmadinejad began his visit on Wednesday by meeting Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. He is scheduled to fly to Bali for the annual D-8 meeting - a conference of developing nations.
