A passenger plane has crashed in heavy storms in Peru's northeastern jungle, killing at least 70 people. That's according to Peruvian Transport Minister Jose Ortiz, who was speaking on Tuesday. The State-run flight, with 93 passengers on board, departed from Lima and was heading to the northern jungle city of Iquitos.

The airliner broke into two, after trying to make an emergency landing without its landing gear on a road in the city of Pucallpa. Local rescue teams have found 20 survivors so far. It's believed but not yet confirmed, that there were foreign citizens on board. The carrier, TANS, has declined to comment.
