Chinese president leaves for 3-nation tour

Chinese President, Hu Jintao, has left for a three-nation tour that will take him to Russia, Kazakhstan, and Britain where he'll attend a summit of the G-8 nations plus five.

Russia is Hu Jintao's first stop. This is the Chinese president's second official visit to Russia since he took office two years ago. He will hold talks with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin and other senior officials. The visit aims to deepen political trust, enhance strategic coordination, and expand regional and personnel exchanges and cooperation.

After Russia, Hu Jintao will go on to Kazakhstan. This will also be his second state visit to the country as president. He will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in the capital, Astana. Leaders of the six SCO member countries will focus on regional cooperation, especially in the areas of security and trade. Hu is expected to deliver a keynote speech at the summit.

The Chinese president will then go on to the G8 Summit Outreach Session in London. Apart from G-8 member states, China, India, Brazil, South Africa and Mexico will also attend. Leaders will focus on issues like the world economy and climate change.
