On Tuesday, China reiterated its stance that its newly-enacted anti-secession law aims at promoting Cross-Straits relations. The law will help maintain China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and secure peace in the region.

Wang Zaixi, deputy director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said the NPC's approval of the Anti-secession law is in the interest of the whole Chinese people, including Taiwan compatriots. He said the law is necessary in opposing and curbing the actions of Taiwan secessionists, and in line with the basic need to administer the country by law. He noted the mainland will give priority to developing strong Cross-Straits relations in the future, and again repeated Beijing's commitment that the mainland will do everything it can to protect the interests of Taiwan compatriots.
