The 21st Century Broadcast Media Summit

The Administration of Radio,Film and Television of the People's Republic of China holds the First 21st Century Broadcast Media Summit from November 21 to 22,2004, in Beijing in combination with the actives to observe the world Television Day,November 21, as declared by the United Nations, in order to further enhance the exchange and cooperation between the Chinese media and their international counterparts and organizations in related sectors, and to promote the mutual understanding betweenthe Chinese people and peoples in other parts of the world.

The aim of this Summit is "Exchange, Cooperation and Development". The theme of the Summit is digitization and industrialization of the broadcast media.Speeches and discussions concentrate on the present situation of the broadcast media and its trend of developmnet;investment and financing of the broadcast media;opportunities and challenges brought about by the digitization of the broadcast media; strategy for development and tactics for competitions and marketing services for the digital pay TV programming.

There are about 200 delegates from home and abroad to the Summit, including principals from SARFT related departments and from related government ministries and administrations, executives from the central and local broadcast media organiazations, experts, scholars from scientific research and educational institutions and representative of privately run television enterprises.

Invited to this Summit are executives from 33 well-known media and financial organiazations in countries like the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Switzerland, Egypt, South Africa, India,Singapore, Japan, Korea, Australia and Hong Kong region. It believes that this Summit will build up an important platform for exchange and cooperation between the Chinese broadcast media and their foreign couterparts and becomes an authentic and important arena for multilateral activities of the international media.
