French stunt team takes to Beijing sky

Jacques Chirac went to Shanghai on Monday as he continued his five-day state visit to China. Though his trip kicked off on Friday, the French Air Force has only just managed to perform for their opening show. Nearly a week of thick fog over Beijing kept planes grounded and disrupted their schedule.

On Monday, stunt team, Patrouille de France, with 10 high-performance Alpha jets, presented the Chinese capital with the latest aerobatic maneuvers and formation flying. This was their first ever display in the country. An earlier performance, originally scheduled for last Thursday, was postponed and eventually cancelled because of the fog shrouding Beijing's skies. The team goes on to perform in Wuhan, Zhuhai and Hong Hong. Their Beijing air show was scheduled to mark the opening of French Culture Year in China. More than 200 cultural activities, including French film festivals, photographic exhibitions and concerts will take place over the next ten months.
