CPPCC members: No room for "Taiwan independence"

CPPCC members have ripped Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian' s planned referendum on the island's defense next week. They say it faces strong opposition within the island and internationally.

Deputy Director of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots Chen Jie says Chen Shui-bian is trying to use the referendum to campaign for his re-election and "Taiwan independence." Other CPPCC members note the provocative actions by Chen threaten peace and stability across the Taiwan Straits and are causing serious international concerns.
