NPC deputies from Hong Kong have expressed optimism that the special administrative region is moving toward a sustainable economic recovery. Many cited the central government's support as a crucial factor.

This NPC deputy from Hong Kong Polytechnic University said the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement is one of the measures the central government has taken to help revive the economy of the SAR.

She suggested more policies be implemented to encourage private enterprises from the Chinese Mainland to go public in Hong Kong.

And this official from the Hong Kong Basic Law Committee said thanks to Beijing's support, Hong Kong's economy is gradually gaining the momentum to rebound.

He expects the Hong Kong government's fiscal deficit to disappear in the next few years.

Last month, the SAR government vowed to restore fiscal balance by 2009 and keep public expenditures to 20 percent of its GDP.
