Two sessions attract int´l spotlight

cctv.com 03-04-2004 09:05

Around 2,900 journalists from both home and abroad have registered to cover the NPC and CPPCC 2004 sessions. The figure is almost the same as last year, but their interest seems to be soaring.

The Great Hall of the People is already familiar to Peter Achten. The Swiss journalist has been covering China's two political sessions for 11 years.

Most of the 460 foreign journalists at this year's sessions are veterans. What impresses them most seems to be the changes that have transformed China's two most significant political conferences over the years.

For those foreigners living in Beijing, witnessing the two political conferences gives them a more in-depth knowledge of the society they call home.

Whatever reasons may have brought them to the most populous country on earth, the foreign journalists and diplomats all look expectant and curious about the goings on in the Great Hall.
