China gets 1st agricultural insurance company

China now has its first insurance company specializing in agriculture. Shanghai Anxin Agriculture Insurance is the country's first step to forming a rural insurance system.

The joint-stock insurer will provide services covering farming, breeding and cultivation, as well as short-term life and property insurance for farmers. As part of the pilot program, Shanghai Anxin will enjoy full governmental support. And the local government will provide premium subsidies for Shanghai farmers whose products are encouraged by the government.
