The Chinese government has voiced strong opposition to Taiwan leader Chen Shui-bian's separatist activities. The Foreign Ministry says China objects to any step taken for Taiwan's independence.
The ministry says Chen Shui-bian's proposed peace and democracy are a disguise for his unilateral ambition to separate Taiwan from the Chinese mainland.
The Chinese government will take a firm stand against any actions that will lead Taiwan towards independence.
The ministry is also urging the United States to maintain its commitment to the "One China" policy and the three joint communiques signed by both countries.
