Two Chinese flight attendants exhibiting SARS-like symptoms have been given a tentative clean bill of health. Australian health authorities say early tests suggest the two, now in isolation at a Sydney hospital, are not infected with the SARS virus.

The two women arrived in Australia from China on Tuesday. One had a headache and muscle pains. The other had a dry cough and a low fever. They were admitted to Sydney's St. Vincent's Hospital in the state of New South Wales. Health officials say passengers aboard the China Southern Airlines aircraft carrying the two flight attendants are not at risk of infection.

Back in China, the Health Ministry says it will remain on high alert throughout the Spring Festival travel period for any sign of SARS. Speaking in Beijing, Deputy Minister Gao Qiang told CCTV that the prevention and monitoring system is working well and will remain in place during the coming several months.
