In South China's Guangdong Province, a World Health Organization epidemiologist has said that there is a low possibility of another serious SARS outbreak in Guangdong.

Robert Breiman of the WHO team said on Friday that China accumulated a great deal of experience in preventing human-to-human transmission of SARS during their fight against the epidemic last year.

The WHO is working with the Chinese Ministry of Health and Guangdong health authorities to launch all-round research into SARS transmission channels besides human-to-human transmission, including possible transmission between animals, humans and the environment.

The research will be of great help in tracing the origin of SARS, and then in properly controlling the spread of the epidemic. Also on Friday, a WHO-MOH team heard a research report from local experts concerning the origin of the SARS virus. Local experts say people in contact with wild animals have a high risk of SARS infection.
